ARCHITECTS' AND ENGINEERS' SPECIFICATIONS
The intercom system shall be Alpha Communications®/Tektone Tek-Select II series, or approved
equal. Master stations shall be model SM401 (or SM404 or SM406 or SM411) and shall be
surface mount (or desk mount) and shall include a built-in voice amplifier, electronic tone signal,
multi-color L.E.D.S, Busy light indicators, selectable function DIP switches, Privacy and Call
Switches, Talk/Listen Switch, slide type volume control, momentary electric door release push-
button, and All-Call switch. System shall be powered by the PK400 power supply, which is
powered by a 24VAC transformer (model SS106). Outdoor remote station shall be the model
OR642 (or model OR603W or model _______). Indoor remote shall be model IR510B (or model
IR100B) with appropriate backbox/ housing. Remote station(s) (other than the IR100B) shall have
built-in momentary call pushbutton and shall be constructed of plastic (or _________).
Contractor shall furnish and install a (compatible) electric door release, and related power supply,
if required, depending upon master station(s) being used.
Contractor shall furnish and install the following OPTIONAL equipment where required, RY400
remote relay (for each 3 door openers), RY401 All-Call relay for up to 12 stations, RY402 In-use
adaptor for use with L.E.D. indicating remote(s).
Contractor shall observe all local and national electrical codes.

WIRING REQUIREMENTS:
From master to master (and to the PK400 control unit), run 6 common wires, and selective wire
for every master -AND- remote on the system. For example, if you have four (4) masters and one
(1) remote, you have five (5) TOTAL stations on the system. Add these five (5) wires to the six (6)
common wires, and you need a minimum of 11 common wires between the master stations. Add
2 common wires from master to master, if All-Call is desired. If background music is desired, add
1 additional common wire from master to master, and run a 2-conductor #18AWG shielded cable
from the background music source to the PK400 power supply unit (up to 100 feet maximum). If
door release is desired, add 1 common wire to master to master cable, and run a 2-conductor
#18AWG cable from each door opener to the PK400 control unit (up to 100 feet maximum).
If ALL-CALL is not used, limit length of cable as follows:

Master stations may be loop wired. NOTE: due to common impedance coupling, tone signals
may be amplified and heard by master stations monitoring other stations. With long wires, this
interference may be quite loud. This effect may be reduced by using two (2) conductors for the
terminal 'C' wire, or by using the next larger size conductor (#20AWG instead of #22AWG), or by
wiring the system in a star pattern, where all stations home run to the PK400 control unit.
For the OR642 or OR642W remote stations, run a 2-conductor twisted pair #22AWG cable from
each remote station, back to the PK400 control unit, up to 250 feet. For runs up to 1,000 feet,
use a 2-conductor (shielded) #18AWG cable. Only one (1) OR642 or OR642W remote may be
used per system.
For the IR143P remote stations, run a 4-conductor 2-twisted pair #22AWG cable from each
remote station, back to the PK400 control unit, up to 250 feet. For runs up to 1,000 feet, use a
2-conductor (shielded) #18AWG cable.
For the IR141U or OR541U remote stations, run a 2-conductor twisted pair #22AWG cable from
each remote station, back to the RY402 in-use adaptor, up to 250 feet. For runs up to 1,000 feet,
use a 2-conductor (shielded) #18AWG cable.
For all other remote stations, run a 2-conductor twisted pair #22AWG cable from each remote
station, back to the nearest master station only, up to 250 feet. For runs up to 1,000 feet, use a
2-conductor (shielded) #18AWG cable.
Run a 2-conductor #18AWG cable from the 24VAC transformer to the PK400 power supply, up to
50 feet. NOTE: the audio and door opener and transformer cables must be in separate jackets
and not in the same cable jacket.
